Incognito #6

Written by Ed Brubaker
Art by Sean Phillips

Having just taken the time to re-read Brubaker and Phillips' Sleeper over the summer, it's hard not to read the final issue of their latest series without comparing it to their first. While Incognito is a great comic, I think it is not as strong as Sleeper. They play with some very similar themes - villainy and betrayal being the main two, but Incognito does not have the complexity of the earlier title. It's also nowhere near as long, so maybe the comparison isn't fair.

Taken on its own merits, Incognito is a great comic. This final issue reveals a great deal about the Overkill brothers and their origins (Ava Destruction's fixation on origins definitely reminded me of the game the Prodigals played in Sleeper). Like any good action movie, the plot is resolved in such a way that a sequel is definitely possible. This series has been plotted very tightly, and I'm glad that the girl from the office gets to make such an important appearance in this issue.

Perhaps the best news is that Brubaker and Phillips are next going to be returning to Criminal, which I think is the best work they have done together.
