Resurrection #0

Written by Marc Guggenheim
Art by Justin Greenwood

I really enjoyed Resurrection in its first iteration (although I'm a little annoyed by the fact that it's now only $6 for the trade - if you haven't read it, go pick it up - that's the deal of the decade), and I'm very much looking forward to it returning to a monthly schedule, and being printed in colour.

This Free Comic Book Day appetizer is enjoyable. It does something that I sometimes wish Robert Kirkman would do with The Walking Dead - it tells a complete story about some survivors of the invasion, without referencing or including any of the regular cast of characters. I figure, if the whole world is ruined, there would be lots of interesting stories out there, not just the one that involves the book's regular cast.

In this case, the comic revolves around Dwight, a man who the aliens had abducted before their invasion, and who has written about his experiences. It is also about a British man named Paul Cole, who I imagine will be turning up in one way or another in the new series (Comic Book Fact: people named Cole are important - read WildCATS and 100 Bullets for proof).

The title looks good in colour, although the bug ships seem to have undergone some sort of redesign in the shift to a new artist. Justin Greenwood has a Ryan Ottley/Corey Walker/Josh Howard vibe to his work, which is perhaps a little cartoony for a title like this, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Included in this comic is a Tek Jansen story by Jim Massey and Robbi Rodriguez. It's cute in its way, but it's definitely not my type of thing.

Hi, Resurrection is a killer book and I have been looking forward to the relaunch for ages.

Justin Greenwood is a killer artist, I've worked with him before, and you should check out some of his art on my site (sorry if this looks like spam) www.stinkbrown.org Click on the links on the right side of my site that talk about my comic proposal called Fate. He did a cover for me and it is killer. I think his art will work well with the series, and be a bit of an improvement over Dave Dumeer, so offense to him.
